The Michalak’s are a family born and bred in right here in Port Stephens, owners Luke and Alyssa proudly own and operate Port Stephens Surf School out of the well-known surf van at One Mile Beach, NSW.

Luke will tell you for him growing up by the water that “Surfing is in our blood. My brother, sister, dad – we all surfed, so we thought, why not teach it?”. That idea has led Luke to be teaching locals and tourists how to ride waves of Port Stephens since 2002.

With Alyssa, they have two daughters Iluka and Hanalei who have also taken a shine to water, riding their first waves with Dad at around age two. With Iluka now leading the charge in the popular Kids Programs run for after school sport and holiday programs.

MICHALAKS

Starting out with Surf Lessons, over the years the surf school has grown far beyond single and private lessons, into a space to talk about and teach ocean awareness, beach safety and how to read the ocean currents. They look at the big picture and work in harmony with the land, with the ethos lives of leaving no trace and respecting the surroundings.

Today, Port Stephens surf school hosts groups of people from all over the world, they host Women’s Surf and Yoga Camps, Large School group camps, their popular Saturday morning Yoga on the Beach, High Performance Coaching (with Luke) and much more…

They have created a team of Coaches who live and breathe the same values of respect and love for the Ocean, who guide people into learning one of Australia’s most popular life-long activities.
